The Oracle is a device generally worn by Shadow members out in the field.
Appearance
The Oracle looks like goggles or eyeglasses with small buttons on the side as well as electronic circuits embedded within, and can come in various colours and shapes. When in use, it can generate a head-up display within the wearer’s vision.
Background
The Oracle was developed by Johnson and Esna, and throughout the novel there were upgraded versions of it. Yu Chiyeoung was also known to have helped with programming the device.
Abilities
The Oracle enables the wearer to communicate through Shadow’s secure channels, and a multitude of information can be transferred onto it for display on the HUD. It also has various built-in functions such as indication of one’s biological status, speech-to-text translation, visual magnification, etc.
Later versions of the Oracle allows the running of programs that can affect the user’s thinking, such as the Berserker Program which plays a series of gory bloodshed on the HUD to make the wearer think of nothing but violence and thus safe from mind control.
